Goals Planing After Lockdown
We’ve done some hard work thinking about why we’re setting out our goals for life after lockdown. For the destination, we want to reach wherever that may be, and what it will mean for us to arrive. And the humbling experiences and unexpected opportunities we wish to pick up along the way.
Today is all about the way you want to travel. Some of this will depend on your destination and the experiences and opportunities you want to create. Short-haul has less risk of an uncomfortable time being delayed partway than a long or multi-leg trip. If you want a smooth ride to your goals you have to have the currency (time, energy) to afford a first-class ticket.
This is why we start with motivation. What does it mean to you to get to this destination? From that place, you can start to build up a picture of how you might get there and what you might encounter on your journey.
There are always lots of options available depending on your budget. Do you want someone to guide you, to pick you up from your current location, and take care of you all the way? Are you happy with an economy package deal that gets you there quickly? Or do you want an adventure, self-navigating on your own two feet, bag on your back?
If you want to get a new job, you can have coaching sessions and talk to consultants, you can quit your current job and take your chances… There are so, so many different approaches.
Making a plan to achieve the goals that will actually work for you isn’t as simple as cutting and pasting one that an expert drew up and put online for people to find. Give some thought to how you want to do the work that you need to do to get where you want to be. It’ll mean you embark on your journey knowing you’re committed not just to the “what” of your goal but to the “how”.
Once you have your “how”, make your plan. Draw your route map. Buy the guide books, if that’s how you’re going to roll. Or just step out of your front door and let it close behind you, but don’t forget your keys as you’ll need to get back in for now — we are still encouraged to stay at home for the moment.
